Best colours to wear for an outdoor Photoshoot. With examples. Tips from an Auckland & Christchurch based Family Photographer
The complete guide to looking great on camera.
First things first, keep things simple.
When choosing what to wear to your next outdoor photoshoot my advice to you is to aim for coordination, not matching. Choose a palette with earthy tones and solid colours. Think light, neutral colours, denim, & textures such as knitted jumpers in winter or flowing dresses and skirts in Summer. These materials photograph beautifully.
I personally love denim, its timeless and elegant.
You want to consider the season that your session is in, every season has different lighting and so the colours will edit differently. You also want to think about the setting your photoshoot is in so the colours you choose look natural against the backdrop. Are you going to be at a beach or in more green setting like a forrest?
I will put examples below for each season.
Spring
New Zealand Beach family photoshoot
This family had gorgeous outfits that went perfectly with each other. Warm, rich creams and browns with a touch of denim.
Summer
Sunset Engagement Session
Engagement session at Long Bay on Auckland’s North Shore.
This beach has lots of greens in the trees and rocks. This couple chose darker tones in greens & Blacks.
Autumn
Extended Garden Family Session
This family had beautiful coordination with the colour palette they chose. Light creams and browns.
Winter
A family photo session at Cornwall Park.
The denim in this session keeps it timeless and stylish.
